1917Perak Hock Kean Kong Hoey established a traditional Chinese school.
1925Established Poi Lam School to nurture talent for Nanyang
1941The school was suspended due to World War II.
1945Classes resumed after the school reopened.
1955Set up three junior classes with 120 students.
1962The school underwent reformation to become an SMJK (Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan). Additionally, afternoon classes were opened to accommodate over-aged and repeat students, leading to the establishment of a Chinese independent school.
1963Perak Hock Kean Kong Hoey resolved to establish a board of directors to found Poi Lam High School, providing education for the growing number of students unable to enter SMJK. In the same year, a senior high school section was also established, with Madam Tan Yoke Fay appointed as the principal.
1964The abolition of the Primary School Leaving Examination cut off the influx of new junior one students. The school could only struggle to survive by enrolling students who have failed the PMR (Penilaian Menengah Rendah) examination.
1970Only 85 students remained in the school. Morale was low and financial difficulties persisted.
1971Reforms were implemented, and efforts were made to enroll new students, revitalizing the campus.
1973• Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng donated 8 acres of rubber estate in Pengkalan for school construction purposes.
• Head of Administration, Shen Tin, initiated the "Fundraising Campaign for One Million Ringgit to Support the Development of Nine Perak Independent Schools", sparking the "Revival Movement of Chinese Independent High Schools," which later spread across Malaysia.
1975• The new school building in Pengkalan has been completed, with the relocation scheduled for April.
• Implement the UEC curriculum and examination for Chinese independent schools.
1976• Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng further donated an adjacent 3-acre rubber estate to the new school building, expanding the campus area to 11 acres.
• The education system was well-established, with the high school offering streams in Arts, Commerce, and Science & Technology.
• The second phase of the school construction plan has been completed, further enhancing the facilities.
1978The third phase of the school construction project has commenced.
1979Introduced the Cambridge GCE O-Level curriculum.
1982The third phase of the school construction project has been completed and inaugurated, which includes the Lee Ming Hsing Grand Hall and indoor sports hall of the Federation Of Heng Ann Association Malaysia, Audio-Visual Hall, and Language Centre.
1986All students at the school were part of the first batch in the state to take computer classes. To accommodate boarding students from out of town, a temporary student hostel was established.
1988Strengthening electronic and electrical equipment to advance toward technical and vocational education.
1989• Co-organized TOEFL Test Preparation courses with INTI International College in Kuala Lumpur.
• Established G.C.E., A-Level, AEB diploma exam preparation classes and officially became an AEB exam centre.
1990The fourth phase of the school construction plan (Hostel building) has officially commenced.
1992• The hostel has been officially completed and put into use, accommodating both male and female hostel students.
• Implementing a cooperative education program in partnership with “Juliana Chong - JF Beauty” to offer a women's skincare and wellness course.
1993• Formally established a sister school relationship with Singapore Hwa Chong Institution.
• Formally signed an agreement to establish a friendly school relationship with Jimei Chinese Language and Culture School in Xiamen, China.
1995Established the Thai Parents' Association in Bangkok, Thailand.
1996• The fifth phase of the school development plan included the construction of a craft building with modern equipment and diverse functions.
• Signed an alliance agreement with Taiwan Tahua University of Science and Technology to establish a friendly school relationship.
• An investment of RM 200,000 was made to expand computer facilities.
• Poi Lam's official website was launched, making it the first Chinese independent school in Perak to have an online presence.
• Signed an agreement with Malaysia UCSI University to establish a branch at our school, providing students with new pathways for further education.
1997• The fifth phase of the school development plan — the Craft Building has been completed.
• Implemented a cooperative education program with MPMA Perak Branch to train talent in plastic technology and provide students with another pathway for career opportunities.
• Principal Tan Yoke Fay has retired.
1998• The craft building is now in use, featuring a science lab, an electrical workshop, and a plastic technology workshop.
• Mr. Wong Hoy Hong became the new principal.
1999• Principal Wong Hoy Hong retired, and Vice Principal Cheung Beng Heong was appointed acting principal and Head of the Academic Department.
• The Teachers and Staff Association was officially established to enhance camaraderie among staff members and organize activities to improve teaching quality and educational value.
2000• The board has appointed Vice Principal Cheung Beng Heong as the fourth principal.
• The Overseas Exchange Association of Guangdong Province visited and conducted a cultural and educational exchange assessment.
• The Mayor of Betong, Thailand, Chen Jinsen, and the Governor of Yala, along with his wife, visited for an educational exchange.
2001• Perpetual Education Fund has been officially established.
• The outdoor badminton court and multimedia classroom have been officially opened.
• The Vice Dean of Jimei Chinese Language Institute at Huaqiao University in Xiamen, and Head of the Training Department, visited Poi Lam High School.
2002Chairman Dato' Lim Kok Cheong officiated the inauguration ceremony for the newly purchased 47 advanced computers.
2003The board has purchased additional advanced computers for educational purposes.
2004Dato' Ong Ka Chuan, Chairman of the Perak MCA Liaison Committee, donated 40 computers worth MYR 80,000 for educational purposes.
2005• Dato' Ong Ka Chuan, Chairman of the Perak MCA Liaison Committee, officiated the opening ceremony of the Multimedia Computer Lab.
• Poi Lam High School signed a memorandum of understanding with the Executive Director of Selangor Multiple Resources Sdn Bhd, Bey Tiang See, to promote the "Cambridge Education System" in 2006.
2006• Secretary General of the MCA, Dato' Ong Ka Chuan officiated the opening ceremony of the Cambridge Modern and Medieval Languages (MML) classes and the inauguration of the Multimedia Network Language Centre.
• A new Multimedia Network Centre has been established, featuring two multimedia classrooms in L Block.
2007• Awarded the title of ‘Top Ten Model Independent Schools.’
• Principal Cheung Beng Heong has retired, and Vice Principal Chow Mee Choy served as the acting principal.
2008Chow Mee Choy became the fifth principal of Poi Lam High School.
2009Principal Chow Mee Choy has applied for long-term medical leave, and Head of Administrative Gouk Toa Moi has been promoted to Vice Principal to serve as the acting principal.
2010• Mr. Leong Ping Chow has assumed the role of acting principal.
• Principal Chow Mee Choy has retired. The former Vice Principal, Gouk Toa Moi, has resigned to take on the role of principal at Nan Hwa High School.
• Singapore River Valley High School visited and conducted examinations to select outstanding students for further studies in Singapore.
2011• The second "Di Zi Gui" cultural exhibition at Poi Lam High School and the inauguration ceremony of the new computer room.
• Poi Lam High School hosted the “Pertandingan Forum Pelajar Peringkat Negeri Perak” and won the overall championship, along with the "Best Host" and "Best Forum Member" awards.
• Awarded the "Excellence in Education Award" by Jabatan Pendidikan Perak.
2012• Won the overall runner-up title at the “Perak Chinese Independent Schools Joint Sports Meet” with three students receiving the Best Athlete award.
• Dato’ Chang Ko Youn, Advisor to the Menteri Besar of Perak, officiated the opening ceremony of the "Let Dreams Take Flight · Soar with Pride" education exhibition and the second Computer Centre.
2013• Students from Singapore West Spring Secondary School, visited Poi Lam High School for an exchange program.
• Hosted the 3rd Perak Chinese Independent Schools Football Championship and won the championship title.
• "Youth Melody: A Dream of Youth" Chinese Orchestra Concert.
2014• "Dance Soul: Dream" Dance Showcase
• "Melodious Harmony" Brass Band Concert.
• Awarded the “ISO 9001 : 2008” Certification
2015• A team of 13 volunteers from Taiwan Dayeh University, visited Poi Lam High School for an exchange and teaching session.
• "Flowing Melodies" Chinese Orchestra Concert.
• The 1st Perak Diabolo Camp – "Miracle of Spinning Bells."
• Overall Runner-up in the Perak Nine Chinese Independent Schools Athletics Championship.
2016• New Classroom Building has been completed.
• Honored with the prestigious title of “Sijil Standard Kualiti Pendidikan Swasta (SKIPS) with five stars”, Poi Lam High School continues to reach new heights.
• The stage play “Wind Rises in Perak” reenacts scenes from the revival of Perak's Chinese independent schools.
• Poi Lam High School won 2 silver and 1 bronze medals at the 8th "Spring Thunder" National Music Competition.
• Poi Lam High School's Chinese Orchestra proudly won four gold awards at the 3rd Malaysia Arts Festival.
20172017年 • Poi Lam High School athletes achieved great success at the Gunung Rapat Inter-School Sports Meet.
• Poi Lam High School boys' team claimed their third consecutive championship title at the Perak Nine Chinese Independent Schools Table Tennis Team Championship.
• Opening ceremony of the pavilion donated by the Lions Club of Ipoh Central.
• The 14th Poi Lam High School Dance Showcase – “Graceful Dance”.

20182018年 • Poi Lam High School hostel was visited by Jabatan Pendidikan Perak and was the only school selected as a research benchmark.
• Poi Lam High School Table Tennis Team won the championship in the Kinta District School Table Tennis Tournament.
• Poi Lam High School won overall runner-up in the Perak Independent School Athletics Championship.
• Poi Lam High School Won Both Boys' and Girls' Titles in the Kinta North D Zone Volleyball Tournament.

20192019年 • Chinese New Year Celebration & Opening Ceremony of Lim Kok Cheong Complex.
• Won third place in Pertandingan Forum Pelajar 2019 Zon B (Perak).
• Runner-up in the Boys' Category and Fourth Place in the Girls' Category at the Perak Chinese Independent Schools Volleyball Championship.
• Won the Gold Award with “Melodic Resonance” at the 11th "Spring Thunder" National Music Festival.
• Runner-up in the Boys' Team Category (U18) and Champion in the Boys' All-Events Category (U18) at the Perak Bowling Open Championship.

2020• Chinese New Year Gathering & Inauguration of Poi Lam High School's New Main Gate Arch.
• Due to the government's Movement Control Order (MCO) in response to COVID-19, Poi Lam High School launched online teaching for the first time.
• Champion in the Boys' Category and Third Place in the Girls' Category at the Kinta North (Zone D) Volleyball Championship (U18).
• Runner-up in the Girls' Category at the MSSPK Volleyball Championship.
• Champion in the Boys' Category at the Perak Basketball Championship.
• For the first time, Poi Lam High School anniversary celebration and enrollment activities were conducted online.
2021• Due to the unpredictable recurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic, Poi Lam High School conducted teaching and activities online for nearly the entire year.
• Participated in the DreamicEdu Education Expo & Forum.
• Continued conducting enrollment through online course briefings.
• The senior and junior high school graduation ceremonies were held separately in a physical format.
• The School Anniversary Food & Fun Fair was suspended and only the School Anniversary Dinner was held at Sun Lee How Fook.
• Tan Xin Kit received the "Top in the World" award from the Cambridge International Examinations for Additional Mathematics.
• Tan En Tong received the "Top in Malaysia" award from the Cambridge International Examinations for First Language Chinese.
2022 • Poi Lam High School officially resumed physical classes and co-curricular activities.
• Won multiple awards in the Perak Independent Chinese Independent School Chinese Art Singing and Poetry Recitation Competition. (Singing Competition: Junior Boys Champion – Lee Zheng Xuan, Junior Girls Merit Award -- Halaine Kwang Hui, Senior Boys' First Runner-up -- Chan Zao Feng, Senior Girls' Champion – Lew Yi Hui, Best Accompaniment Award – Wen Li Lok; Poetry Recitation Competition: Junior Category First Runner-up – Zhang KaiXin, Lam Wan Rou, Jen Qi Heng, Ng Jie Yu).
• Gold Award at the 32nd Perak Primary and Secondary School Dance Competition.
• Wong E Shen received the "Top in the World" award from the Cambridge International Examinations for Mathematics.
2023• Due to health reasons, Principal Mr. Leong Ping Chow has transitioned to the role of School Affairs Consultant, with Vice Principal and Head of the Academic Department, Ling Soon Ching, acting as the interim Principal.
• Gold Award at the 33rd Perak Primary and Secondary School Dance Competition.
• Won the Team Competition Champion in “Pertandingan Forum Pelajar Peringkat Negeri Perak”.
• Military Brass Band Déjà vu” Music Concert.
• Student Reporters "The Beauty of Photography, The Truth of Life" Off-Campus Photography Exhibition.
• Completion of the New ECA Building.
2024• The New ECA Building was put into use gradually.
• The Administrative Building has adopted a solar power system.
• Improved the Campus Perimeter Wall and Installed additional Night Lighting.
• Smart boards have been installed in the classrooms of Senior 2 and Senior 3.
• The new hostel activity centre has been converted into a multi-purpose games room.
• Won 3 gold medals in the DOKA Mathematics Competition. (Tang Qi Cheong, Tan Xuan Yu, Lim Li Xian).
• In the Kinta Utara and Kinta Interzone Ping-Pong Competition, Leong Zi Xian won double titles in the men's category.
• In the 19th Perak Chinese Independent Schools Athletics Championships, Shirmine Kho Zhi Lin won two championships and one fourth-place finish, earning the Best Senior Girls’ Athlete Award.
• In the 2024 All-Perak Primary & Secondary School Chess Championship, Leong Jun Hao retained his U18 championship title.
• Won the Gold Award in the Open Category and the Silver Award in the Secondary School Category in the “33rd National Chinese Traditional Dance Festival and the 22nd National Chinese Schools Dance Competition”.
• Grand Champion of the Chinese Art Singing Competition & Chinese Poetry Recitation Competition.
• Retained the team championship title in “Pertandingan Forum Pelajar Peringkat Negeri Perak”. Additionally, Phang Kai Hui won the "Best Host" award, and Ethan Goh Zhan Hui received the "Best Forum Member" award.
• Gold Award in the Secondary School Category at the 34th Perak Primary and Secondary School Dance Showcase.
